Olympic Gold Medal Figure Skater Sarah Hughes Passes on Run for Congress in Nassau

“Former Olympic figure skating champion Sarah Hughes announced she won’t seek to unseat Island Park Republican Anthony D’Esposito in New York’s 4th Congressional District, according to her  posts Friday to the social media platform X,” Newsday reported. Now an attorney and Manhattan resident, Hughes opened a federal campaign account this summer to consider getting into the 2024 Democratic primary against several candidates, most notably: former Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen, an attorney from Rockville Centre, and State Senator Kevin Thomas, an attorney from Levittown. US Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (R) is currently the Republican representing the most Biden-friendly House district in the nation. This will be one of the top contests for both parties given the tight 222-213 margin in the US House of Representatives.
