Congress 2024: NY State Democrats Reject Commission Proposal, Passing New House Maps

Feb 28, 2024

“New York state lawmakers are poised to approve new congressional districts on Wednesday that could finally put an end to three years of court battles and partisan bickering that kept the state’s political map in a near-constant state of flux,”  reported WNYC. State legislative Democrats in Albany rejected the newest proposed boundaries drawn by the state's Independent Redistricting Commission and prepared today to pass their own set of congressional mapsreported Spectrum News. “Yet their plan exhibits surprising restraint,”  observed the New York Times. Some Republicans seemed surprised, as nonpartisan analysts agree that several of New York’s 26 seats will be key to determining control of Congress for 2025-26.
