"Democrat Tom Suozzi was sworn in as a congressman again Wednesday, representing Long Island and Queens' 3rd congressional district," reported CBS News. "Suozzi brought his local cheering section to Congress. About 100 people from Long Island were shouting his name as he called for a new era of harmony and working across the aisle. It was the second time Suozzi took the Oath of Office to become congressman, but probably the first time he bluntly confronted members of Congress to cast aside the dysfunction and, as he said, 'Wake up.'"
In the 4th Congressional District, including most of the Town of Hempstead as well as the City of Long Beach, State Senator Kevin Thomas (D-Levittown) and former Nassau County Legislator Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) both dropped their Congressional bids under pressure from national Democrats to unify behind former Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen (D-Rockville Centre). Gillen lost 52-48% to now U.S. Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-Island Park) in 2022, but President Biden (D) defeated former President Trump (R) 57-43% here in 2020. This district is a national priority for both parties given the close margins in Congress, and U.S. Rep. D'Esposito recently endorsed Trump for another term as President.
