NYSAR urges REALTORS® living and working in New York City to tell their local Council Member to oppose legislative changes to broker fees (Int. 360, aka the FARE Act). NYSAR believes this bill would drastically change the rental market, eliminating the ability to negotiate who pays a commission, resulting in higher rents for all tenants. Prohibiting this common practice of collecting a broker fee from the tenant will reduce the use of real estate professionals in rentals, harming REALTORS® without helping tenants. The FARE Act's sponsor, City Council Member Chi Ossé (D-Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights) recently announced its endorsement by the NYC's Central Labor Council - including politically powerful unions such as 1199SEIU, DC37, NYS Nurses Association (NYSNA), RWDSU/UFCW, and the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council (HTC).
