With the appreciation of Huntington Town officials, LIBOR recently joined business community leaders and local residents to speak up in support of new housing in Melville:
"Responsible, forward-thinking actions like those being taken up by the Town Board show that we have not misplaced our good faith in the continued expectation that local officials will prioritize new housing plans without harming the quality of life that makes homeownership so valuable in Huntington Town in the first place. REALTORS® have a vested interest in creating better places to live and reducing homeowners’ tax burden through smart growth while standing against fair housing violations and unwelcoming attitudes." You can read LIBOR's submitted testimony to Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth (R) and the Town Board here.
As far back as 2016, local studies have shown the need to reform the zoning in Melville to improve Long Island's economic future and combat a housing crisis that has only worsened over time. As LIBOR shared last week, Huntington has agreed to modestly scale back the overall Melville Town Center plan while preserving new homeownership and rental opportunities.
