As the Republicans officially clinch a narrow majority in the US House of Representatives, check out LIBOR's rundown of the bipartisan list of winners from our region's 15 most-watched elections this year, HERE. In total, REALTOR® Champions were on the ballot in nearly all of them, vying to represent Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk in either the New York State Legislature or Congress.
Some elections were very close and demonstrated why every vote (and campaign dollar) can really matter:
Retired NYPD and US Navy veteran Kwani O'Pharrow (D) leads fellow NYPD alum Joe Cardinale (R) by 447 votes out of over 52,000 cast in their open race for State Assembly in the Amityville and Lindenhurst area.
Former Port Jefferson Village Deputy Mayor Rebecca Kassay (D) leads Assemblymember Ed Flood (R) by 211 votes out of nearly 60,000 total to represent a district that also includes Coram and Stony Brook.
In most contests, REALTOR®-friendly incumbents won reelection but a few standouts won their state legislative office for the first time after winning their close June primaries with REALTOR® support - like State Senator-elect Siela Bynoe (D-Westbury) and Assemblymember-elect Noah Burroughs (D-Hempstead).
In a few other races, challengers narrowly upset incumbents of both parties that REALTORS® knew well - like US Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-Town of Hempstead) and Assemblymember Gina Sillitti (D-Port Washington).
