NYC: Governor Considers Removing Mayor Adams; Speaker Calls for His Resignation

Feb 19, 2025

"New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) is not closing the door on removing New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) from office as a growing coalition in their Democratic Party presses her to act," reported WNYC's Gothamist. "Hochul said Thursday that she’s reviewing her options after the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan accused Adams' attorneys of offering his cooperation with President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in exchange for dropping pending criminal charges against Adams."

In a major development, Mayor Adams' four top deputies all submitted letters of resignation and prompted City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams (no relation) to call for Mayor Adams to resign as well.

This historic situation follows a wave of prosecutor resignations from the Manhattan US Attorney's Office over the new U.S. Department of Justice's plans to withdraw corruption charges against the mayor.
