Huntington REALTORS® Help Raise Donated Food Items for Island Harvest

Mar 23, 2021

The Huntington Township Chapter (HTC) of Long Island Board of REALTORS®, Inc. (LIBOR) raised approximately 650 pounds of donated food items, along with monetary donations, to benefit Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger-relief organization. The supplies were collected through the Chapter’s Virtual Food Drive held during the month of February.

The donated items will help support Island Harvest in its efforts to aid the increased number of individuals and families who have been affected by the economic impact of the ongoing public health crisis and to meet the needs of those who were relying on food assistance prior to the pandemic.

LIBOR has been helping to make strides towards solutions for hunger in our communities since 2008 with the launch of the REALTORS® Against Hunger (RAH) campaign.  Created by LIBOR’s Public Relations Committee, this annual food collection campaign calls on REALTORS® across the island to raise funds, non-perishable food items and awareness for hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that help those struggling with food insecurity.

“COVID-19 continues to have an adverse impact on the lives of our Long Island neighbors, with thousands of individuals and families turning to food relief organizations for assistance, many who have never asked before,” said LIBOR President Susan Helsinger. “I am so proud of the continued commitment and generosity of LIBOR’s Huntington Township Chapter in providing vital food support to those in need in our communities.”

Established in 1957, the Huntington Township Chapter of LIBOR encompasses the northwestern Suffolk towns from Cold Spring Harbor to Fort Salonga. As an extension of the Association, Chapters provide information, education, networking and charitable opportunities to REALTORS® in 13 geographic areas across Long Island.
