LIBOR Launches RAH Campaign with a $2,000 Donation to Island Harvest

Nov 5, 2013

November 5, 2013 - West Babylon, NY - The Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) is proud to announce the launch of their 6th Annual REALTORS® Against Hunger (RAH) campaign, to fight hunger in our local communities.  Through RAH, which was created in 2008 by LIBOR’s Public Relations committee, Long Island REALTORS® will be collecting donations of non perishable food items (as well as well as personal care items, diapers and dry pet food) at various real estate offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, until the end of December.  This collection is to support Island Harvest, Long Island Cares - The Harry Chapin Food Bank, the Long Island Council of Churches, the Queens Federation of Churches, and other community pantries in their efforts to provide food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry.

To mark the launch of the RAH campaign, LIBOR presented a $2,000 donation to Island Harvest, the largest hunger relief organization on Long Island.   Island Harvest serves as the bridge between those who have surplus food and those who need it, supplying over 570 community-based nonprofit organizations on Long Island with critical food support to help stem the advancing tide of hunger in our communities. The donation provided to Island Harvest, is earmarked to help with their Mobile Food Pantry and Operation Help programs.  The latter is a new program specifically designed to assist veterans and the families of active duty personnel deployed overseas

“LIBOR is proud to once again participate in the REALTORS® Against Hunger campaign.  It’s been exactly a year since Super Storm Sandy tore through Long Island, and storm damaged communities are still in need of assistance.  Many Long Islanders are continuing to struggle with rebuilding their homes, and their lives.  They are finding themselves in a position where they are unable to put food on the table and are in dire need for other resources as well.    Through RAH and our “We’re More than REALTORS® program, the REALTOR® family is committed to assisting our neighbors in any way that we can.” said LIBOR President Moses Seuram, whose own office has participated in this program since its inception.

Visit LIRealtorsagainsthunger.com to find a participating office in your area where you can drop off food that will help feed the hungry. With the astounding number of people seeking emergency assistance at food pantries, soup kitchens, and other organizations that provide food assistance, the need to find solutions to combat hunger is more important now than it has ever been.  LIBOR is committed to making strides towards solutions for this epidemic, through the REALTORS® Against Hunger campaign, and working with community organizations and outreach programs to do so.
