In celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month and support of equal rights for all people regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity, Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) proudly participated in the New Queens Pride Parade on June 2, 2024. This event, the second oldest and second largest pride parade in New York City, takes place annually on the first Sunday in June in Jackson Heights on 37th Avenue.
Founded in 1993, the New Queens Pride Parade and Multicultural Festival has been a vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusion, attracting thousands of participants and spectators each year. This year marked LIBOR’s first time participating in the event, and the organization made a spirited showing, reminding everyone that “Pride Has a Home Here!”
Hosted by LIBOR’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, the participation underscored LIBOR’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community. Members of LIBOR, adorned in LIBOR Pride attire and carrying banners, marched proudly to show their support for LGBTQ+ rights and to celebrate the progress made toward equality.
“Participating in the New Queens Pride Parade was an incredible experience for all of us at LIBOR,” said Kevin Leatherman, President of LIBOR. “We are honored to stand with the LGBTQI community and to promote a message of acceptance, and equality. At LIBOR, we believe that everyone deserves a place to call home, and we are committed to ensuring that our industry reflects these values.”
The event featured a diverse array of performances, cultural displays, and informational booths, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated the rich diversity of Queens. LIBOR’s participation was a show of support and a reaffirmation of its dedication to advocacy and community involvement.
