Long Island Board of REALTORS® Furthering Commitment to Fight Hunger on Long Island

Jun 14, 2023

Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) recently participated in the 2023 REALTOR® Volunteer Days by volunteering with City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization. In partnership with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), REALTORS® throughout Long Island and Queens collaborated on the nationwide philanthropic initiative to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need and strengthen the communities we serve.

LIBOR REALTOR® volunteers joined City Harvest at its Astoria Mobile Market® on June 3, 2023, to assist with the food distribution of thousands of pounds of fresh produce to eligible market-goers. At day’s end, the team distributed 12,000 lbs. of food to nearly 400 families in the neighboring community. Through its Mobile Markets®, City Harvest delivers fresh fruits and vegetables, free of charge, to thousands of New Yorkers each month.

In recognition of the national week of REALTOR® volunteering, LIBOR also contributed $3,000 to City Harvest to support its mission to help feed the millions of New Yorkers who are struggling to make ends meet.

The 2023 REALTOR® Volunteer Days united REALTOR® associations, brokerages, and members at large nationwide in their efforts to launch community service projects in all 50 states. Created by NAR, the weeklong give-back event is part of the REALTORS® Are Good Neighbors campaign and is meant to show how REALTORS®, are good stewards of their communities, from volunteering at homeless shelters to organizing donation drives.

“LIBOR is proud to have participated in the 2023 REALTOR® Volunteer Days and to have had the opportunity to work with City Harvest in its fight against hunger,” said Gina Marie Bettenhauser, LIBOR President. “Giving back is part of who we are as both people and as professionals. We are committed to helping the communities we serve and supporting organizations, like City Harvest, that are making a difference in people’s daily lives.”
