Long Island REALTORS® Aid in Housing Relief Efforts with Contributions to Two Foundations

Sep 25, 2020

Long Island Board of REALTORS® (LIBOR) supports those in need of safe housing and recently made contributions to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) REALTORS® Relief Foundation to support individuals and families affected by the devastating wildfires in northern California and need temporary housing, and to the New York State Association of REALTORS® (NYSAR) Housing Opportunities Foundation which works to aid in facilitating homeownership to low-to-moderate income families in our state.

In the wake of the catastrophic wildfires in northern California, which have destroyed entire communities and displaced thousands of individuals and families, LIBOR contributed $10,000 to the REALTORS® Relief Foundation.  The foundation is dedicated to providing housing-related assistance to people hit by disaster across the country, and is currently coordinating efforts to provide relief for those who have endured unimaginable loss. The foundation has made a $1 million commitment to assist wildfire victims in the ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts and LIBOR is proud to be a part of fulfilling that commitment.

Also in September, LIBOR contributed $2,000 to the NYSAR Housing Opportunities Foundation to assist New Yorkers in achieving the American Dream of becoming homeowners. The NYSAR Housing Opportunities Foundation was created to help families and individuals overcome obstacles to homeownership as well as to promote safe, decent and affordable housing for all in New York State.

“Community is at the heart of real estate. As REALTORS®, we are committed to helping our neighbors in need. Whether it’s rebuilding homes in the aftermath of a natural disaster or building opportunities for affordable housing, it is our livelihood to assist families and individuals in fulfilling and reclaiming their dream of homeownership,” said LIBOR President Matthew Arnold.

About REALTORS® Relief Foundation
The National Association of REALTORS® first launched the REALTORS® Relief Foundation (RRF) as the REALTORS® Relief Fund in 2001, within hours of the devastating Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks—raising more than $8.4 million to provide assistance so that surviving family members could stay in their homes. Since then, more than $32 million has been raised for victims of disasters, including wildfires, tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes. Today, RRF exists as a 501(c)(3) organization established to provide housing-related assistance to victims of disasters and for other charitable purposes permitted under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

About NYSAR Housing Opportunities Foundation
Created by the Board of Directors of the New York State Association of REALTORS® in early 2003; the NYSAR Housing Opportunities Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charitable foundation with the goal of assisting individuals in becoming homeowners utilizing a variety of means including public-private partnerships, education, counseling and financial assistance to both individuals and organizations whose activities facilitate homeownership.
